Freelance Field Researcher

The Freelance Field Researcher will serve as part of a network of project-based, contract professionals working locally or traveling domestically to conduct on-site customer research such as customer intercepts, interviews and ethnography.

Principal Accountabilities
Principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Data Collection and Management

  • Works as a contract partner to execute field research on a project basis – frequency and duration of engagements will be based on client need
  • Participates in virtual or in person (as appropriate) training sessions and team meetings to prepare for field research initiatives
  • Accurately, executes field research protocols as part of a Halverson Group research team at retail establishments
  • Collects accurate and complete data in the field including, but not limited to, customer intercept surveys and interviews, in-store ethnography, and video/audio data capture to meet project quotas
  • Manages research technologies that are required for a project to ensure that they are secure at all times
  • Provides recommendations for enhancements to data collection process as appropriate

Synthesis

  • Provides Project Leads and Field Research Managers with insightful feedback on key project results and themes either through virtual meetings or informal in-person meetings at the research site

Quality Assurance

  • Conducts quality checks to ensure accurate and complete data capture in the field
  • Transfers all data completely and accurately to the Project Lead or Field Research Manager at the completion of data collection efforts

Confidentiality

  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to Halverson Group’s proprietary research methodologies and tools and client findings

Brand Ambassadorship

  • Displays a professional demeanor while working with all Halverson Group team members, client contacts, shoppers and retail personnel
  • Provides accurate and professional summaries of research objectives and methodologies to retail personnel as required

Scheduling

  • Works with the Halverson Group Administrative Manager to keep an accurate record of availability for upcoming research projects
  • Works with the Halverson Group Administrative Manager to make all travel and scheduling arrangements for upcoming research projects

Expense Management

  • Keeps accurate records of all expenses incurred on research efforts including airfare, car rental, meals, lodging, and research materials.
  • Submits accurate and timely expense reports for processing

Position Requirements

  • Relevant experience in shopper/consumer insights, market research, social sciences (e.g., Industrial/Organizational, Cognitive, Experimental or Social Psychology, Consumer Studies) or retail operations (e.g., retail associate, or store manager)
  • Comfort working with or learning cutting edge research technologies (e.g., iPad surveys, mobile eyetracking, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel locally for local market research, ability to travel domestically a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Valid Credit Card
  • Multilingual skills a plus
  • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Comfort working on-site in retail environments as part of a Halverson Group Team
  • Comfort engaging with shoppers and client representatives on-site in retail establishments
  • Flexible availability including weekends
  • Willingness to submit to a background check

This is a contract, project-based position.
